MLE Originals Crochet Stitch Glossary

Slip Knot: This is the starting point of any crochet project. Leaving a 6-8" tail of yarn, make a loop of yarn around your fingers. Use hook or fingers to pull a loop of yarn from the working end through the first loop. Cinch tight. 

Yarn Over (yo): Wrap yarn over hook. 

Chain (ch): Begin with a slip knot. Yarn over; draw through loop of slip knot; repeat as many times as necessary. 

Turning Chain (tch): This technique is used at the end of a row in preparation of a new row. Your pattern will indicate the number of chains required. If following an MLE Originals pattern, tch does not count as first stitch. 

Single Crochet (sc): Insert hook from front to back into appropriate stitch (as indicated in your pattern), yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through both loops on hook. 

Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog). AKA single crochet decrease (sc dec): Insert hook into appropriate stitch (as indicated in your pattern), yarn over and pull up a loop; insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook.) Yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.  

Half Double Crochet (hdc): Yarn over, insert hook into appropriate stitch (as indicated in your pattern), yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook.) Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook. 

Half Double Crochet 2 Together (hdc2tog). AKA half double crochet decrease (hdc dec): Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook.) Yarn over and draw through all loops on hook.  

Double Crochet (dc): Yarn over, insert hook into appropriate stitch (as indicated in your pattern), yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook.) Yarn over and draw through 2 loops, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops. 

Double Crochet 2 Together (dc2tog). AKA double crochet decrease (dc dec): Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (5 loops on hook.) Yarn over, draw through 4 loops, yarn over, draw through remaining 2 loops on hook. 

Treble or Triple Crochet (tc): Yarn over 2 times, insert hook into appropriate stitch (as indicated in your pattern), yarn over and pull up a loop (4 loops on hook.) Yarn over and draw through first 2 loops, yarn over and draw through next 2 loops, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops. 

Treble Crochet 2 Together (tc2tog). AKA treble crochet decrease (tc dec): Yarn over 2 times, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (6 loops on hook.) Yarn over and draw through first 4 loops, yarn over and draw through next 2 loops, yarn over and draw through remaining 2 loops. 

Slip Stitch (sl st): Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Draw this loop through loop on hook. Repeat as many times as indicated in your pattern. 

Back Loop Only: Work into the back loop of next stitch, omitting the front loop. 

Front Loop Only: Work into the front loop of next stitch, omitting the back loop.
